Gianfranco Asveri was born in Fiorenzuola d'Arda in 1948, lives and works at Gasperini on the Piacenza hills. He did not attend academies or pursue artistic studies of any other kind. A not easy life lived by the young Gianfranco, this path fills the artist with deep feelings resulting in painting with great mastery, where personal research, his extraordinary instinctive sensitivity, are put on the canvas like a story where animals' lives intersect , their stories in the landscape where they live, stories of human feelings, in a refined graphic design, paintings of an explosion of colors where great harmony reigns, more or less material, allow us to enter his tables, canvases and papers. He therefore finds a reason for living in art, after an initial period in which he expressed himself with a traditional figurative language, starting from the 1980s, his painting has arrived at a more instinctive and personal gesture, rich in color and material , close to the expressionism of Art Brut. Representative of a highly instinctual and emotional pictorial style, Asveri attacks the surface with an overbearing and primitive gesture, which however allows it to coexist with other less perceptible expressive matrices. With a deep and vital inspiration, his painting arises from the observation of reality: the animals that the artist collects and cares for, with whom he lives and loves above all things, are the same ones to which he dedicates drawings, paintings and poems. He became a painter known to the public of enthusiasts when he finally exhibited in Piacenza at the “L'Angolo” gallery thanks to the passion of Piera Strabiotti and Franca Righetti. From that moment on, personal and collective exhibitions followed one another incessantly throughout Italy and in the main European cities such as Brussels, London, Paris, Lille and Copenhagen. Since 2017, he has collaborated with the CASATI Arte Contemporanea Gallery in Muggiò, for which he has created several personal exhibitions. Among the most interesting of his career we must mention: “Incontri” (1986), “Stories and characters” (1989), “Gianfranco Asveri” (1990), “Anthological exhibition 1964-1994” (1994), “Die gestische Malerei von Gianfranco Asveri” (2004 - Germany), “Nieuwe Verhalen” (2007 - Holland), “Look at me, I love you!” (2010 - Holland), “Memories from Above” (2018). The magazine il Sole24ore included him in the list of "10 emerging Italian painters", confirming his success and the positive response obtained from the public.
