Elvira Bach Biography

Elivira Bach (1951 - ) From 1967 to 1970 Bach studied at the Erwin-Stein-Schule (state professional glass school) in Hadamar. Subsequently, she moved to Berlin and studied painting from 1972 to 1979 at the Berlin University of the Arts with the “Junge Wilde” or “Neue Wilde” painters titled Rainer Fetting and Salomé. During his studies he worked at the Schaubühne theater in Berlin. In 1981, a scholarship took Elvira to the Dominican Republic to study as an “artist in residence,” and she was greatly inspired by her experiences there. A painter and model for many female artists, she was the first woman to take part in the documenta in 1982 and has had a large number of solo exhibitions since 1978, including Berlin, New York, London, Paris, Basel and Madrid. From the beginning of her 35-year career, Elvira Bach elevated femininity to the central subject of her paintings and sculptures. In doing so, however, she does not describe the negative stereotypes of the battle of the sexes, but rather celebrates being a woman in all its facets: from love and passion to melancholy and sadness.
