Giovanni Raffaele Badaracco Biography
Giovanni Raffaele Badaracco (Genoa, 1648 – Genoa, 1717) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period, active mainly in Genoa. Born in Genoa, he was the son and pupil of Giuseppe Badaracco. After training in his father's workshop, he went to Rome, where he attended Carlo Maratta's school. He also operated in Naples and Venice, then returned to Genoa. Among his most important works we can mention: -The paintings "Flagellation of Christ" and "Institution of the Eucharist" in the oratory of the Assumption, adjacent to the Sanctuary of Coronata, in the Cornigliano district, which are considered his masterpiece, -The paintings depicting the “Carmelite Saints” and “The Virgin and St. John”, in the Church of Nostra Signora del Carmine in Genoa, -The two large paintings depicting “San Bruno” in the Church of San Bartolomeo della Certosa, in Genoa- Rivarolo.
