Emile Baes (1879 - 1954) was a Belgian painter, printmaker, art critic and writer.
After training in his hometown and in Paris, as well as in the atelier of Joseph Stallaert, Charles Baes exhibited his works in the main European capitals, in particular in Paris where the portrait of King Albert I is located in the Museum of Invalids of Belgium, of which he was the personal painter. The presentation of this painting, donated to France, took place on 3 December 1932, during a ceremony presided over by the President of the Republic.
A member of the Paris Society of Men of Letters, Baes became a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour.
