Giuseppe Balata (1879 - 1965) was born in 1879 in Tiarno di Sopra in Val di Ledro. After completing his first studies in Rovereto, in the 1990s he attended the nude school of Monaco and the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, where he excelled in restoration. Antonio Meyer, painter, is his teacher. He was hired by the Superintendency of Fine Arts of Trento and restored the works of Gaspare Antonio Baroni di Cavalcab in the churches of S. Marco and S. Maria in Rovereto. He also worked for the conservation of the frescoes in the castles of Bragher and Valer in Val di Non, Castel Tirolo and Novacella, and restored seventeenth-century frescoes to their former splendor. He took part in local exhibitions starting in 1920 and continued until 1959. He died in Rovereto in 1965.
