Jaime Bartolomé Balbás was born in Astillero (Santander), Spain.
He moved to Barcelona at a very young age where he studied at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios (Llotja). In 1954 he began to exhibit in international exhibitions, such as in the Salón de Mayo de Barcelona or in the exhibitions of the Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc. In 1958 he had his first solo exhibition at the Asociación de la Prensa. In 1962 he co-founded the group "Krit". In the following years he presented many exhibitions around the world with the "Krit" group.
His debut works mainly focus on a figuration tending towards expressionism. His female figures made history and his landscapes allowed him to discover volume and triangular shapes. After 1961 he arrived at abstract art. In the 1970s, Italy became its main market thanks to Enzo Pagani who organized his first exhibitions in Milan.
After a long illness he died on 20 October 2009 in Barcelona, ​​​​where he lived all his life.
