Ferdinando Baldi Biography

Ferdinando Baldi was born on 9 May 1927 in Cava de'Tirreni and died on 17 November 2007 at the age of 80 in Rome. After graduating in Literature, he worked for a period as a high school teacher. His life changed after meeting the producer Tiziano Longo, to whom he showed his screenplays, which he had written almost as a hobby. He never thought he would be interested in the world of cinema, but Longo encouraged his penchant for writing screenplays and pushed him to direct a film. Thus was born "The Price of Honor", a film whose protagonist is Mario Vitale from Salerno. That first film was followed by more than 70 that spanned all genres: from romantic comedies to westerns, from peplums to thrillers. Gradually the professor - so called not only for his previous profession but also for his calm and calm manner - makes his way into the world of cinema. In 1955 he decided to film his hometown, Cava de'Tirreni, perhaps as a tribute to it. In the film "Ricordami" (the first set to portray the Metellian valley in a film), he decided to use the views and the Metellian village for the scenography. In recent years he has had meetings with Pasolini and other directors. In 1960 he directed "David and Goliath" in which the role of King Saul was played by Oscar winner Orson Welles, and the following year he directed a western musical with Rita Pavone, Terence Hill, Lucio Dalla and Teddy Reno. But Baldi's versatility it has also emerged in some films shot with the possibility of viewing in 3D, including "Comin' at Ya!". Baldi lived a full life, full of travel and cinematic challenges.
