Bernardo Balestrieri (Palermo 1884 - 1965) was a Sicilian sculptor active in the first decades of the twentieth century.
He trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo, becoming particularly passionate about sculpture through the lessons of professor Vincenzo Ragusa. In Rome he graduated from the School of the Art of the Medal of the Mint of the Kingdom.
Returning to Palermo, he worked as a decorator, creating architectural friezes, and as a portrait painter mainly for the city's bourgeoisie.
He is remembered in particular for having erected the monument to the Fallen in Poggio Mirteto in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele. Read the full biography

Bernardo Balestrieri Biography

Bernardo Balestrieri (Palermo 1884 - 1965) was a Sicilian sculptor active in the first decades of the twentieth century.
He trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo, becoming particularly passionate about sculpture through the lessons of professor Vincenzo Ragusa. In Rome he graduated from the School of the Art of the Medal of the Mint of the Kingdom.
Returning to Palermo, he worked as a decorator, creating architectural friezes, and as a portrait painter mainly for the city's bourgeoisie.
He is remembered in particular for having erected the monument to the Fallen in Poggio Mirteto in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele. II Balestrieri participated in various artistic exhibitions in Italy and abroad. He was present at the Eighth International Biennial Venetian Art Exhibition in 1909 with the plaster work "La blind" and at the Ninth Venetian Art Exhibition in 1910 with two plaster works "Orfanelli" and "Riflesso nell'acqua". In the national gallery of modern art in Rome there is his work "Ergastolanơ".
