Vincenzo Balsamo Biography

Vincenzo Balsamo (Brindisi, 1935). His first contact with painting came from his work experience in the workshop of the painter and decorator Pietro Acquaviva; thus he began to paint his first paintings: landscapes, flowers, houses and countryside views. In 1949 he moved to Rome and in 1954 he enrolled at the San Giacomo School of Art, where he refined his painting techniques. After a personal exhibition in his city of origin, in 1959 he opened his first studio in Rome: his exhibition journey began. In 1961 he was called to create the scenography for the film Cleopatra, in the Cinecittà studios and the following year he painted intense landscapes of Tuscany, Umbria, Lazio and Campania. Balsamo's landscapes are destined to be colored with vibrant backgrounds of color, to the point of becoming increasingly abstract and fragmented: he turns his research towards abstract cubism. He exhibits all over the world and in 2010 he was called to participate in the Fourth China Biennial.
