Eugenio Barbieri (1927 - 2015), born in Forli in 1927, was one of the most important Italian artists of the second half of the 20th century. Initially he dedicated himself to technical studies and then completely diverted his interest to painting. In fact, he lived in Paris and Milan between the 60s and 80s and after having set up important exhibitions here, he returned to Romagna. In his career he received many recognitions and prizes, such as the Presidency of Ministers Award at the National Exhibition of Contemporary Art in Ravenna in 1949. An eclectic and fascinating character, he attracted leading figures in culture and art, such as the French critics Pierre Restany and Jose Pierre, through his very personal art. In 1998 the municipality of Forlì dedicated a large retrospective exhibition to him at Palazzo Albertini and recently an evocative exhibition at the Cassa dei Risparmi Foundation at Palazzo del Monte di Pietà.
