His paintings mainly focus on the reproduction of Arcadian landscapes. Most of his works are kept at the Cassa di Risparmio or at the Municipality of Bologna.

The year of her debut was marked by the victory of the Curlandese prize for one of her works of strong symbolism, which depicted Sappho throwing herself from the cliff. Barbieri seems to have been influenced by the heroic character that characterized Bolognese painting of the time, with Tambroni, considered his master, following him in his efforts. In subsequent years, however, Barbieri seems to have devoted himself mainly to his favorite landscapes, rarely specifying where they were set.
