Olivo Barbieri (Carpi, 1954) is an Italian photographer. In the early 1970s, Barbieri attended the faculty of pedagogy and the DAMS in Bologna. It was during these years that his interest in photography was born. Initially his research will focus on artificial lighting in urban and architectural centres. In the following decade he participated in many projects promoted by Luigi Ghirri, including Viaggio in Italia, a project consisting of a book and a traveling exhibition which collected images of many Italian and, to a lesser extent, foreign authors. Specializing in photography of urban environments, he has made films and published several books and catalogs dedicated to the topic. It is known for the "miniaturization of the landscape" effect, obtained thanks to the use of selective focus (decentralization or "tilt-shift") in aerial shots aimed at creating blurring similar to that of macro photography.
