Rafael Barradas (Montevideo, 4 January 1890 – Montevideo, 12 February 1929) was a Uruguayan painter. Artist of great inventive imagination, reaching the maximum of expressiveness when, in 1917, he introduced Vibracionismo in Spain. His real name was Rafael Justino Perez Gimenez. Uruguayan painter, born in Montevideo on 4 January 1890, son of a marriage between Spaniards who emigrated to Uruguay at the end of the 19th century. Considered self-taught, even though his father was a painter by trade, as he died when little Rafael was 8 years old. Despite his short life (he died at the age of 39), he performed acts that rank him among the painters of his generation, especially in Spain and South America where he revolutionized painting and inspired all the artistic trends of the moment, such as Generation of '27.
