Matteo Barretta Biography
Matteo Barretta, born in San Cipirello (PA) in 1941 and died, at the age of 52, in Partinico (TP) on 7 August 1993, he lived and worked in Catania, where he taught Figure at the Art School, with studio in Piazza Buonarroti,2. After completing his studies at the Institute of Fine Arts in Palermo, in 1961 he joined the SLAF artistic group promoted by the art critic Albano Rossi and began an intense exhibition activity. From 1965 for a few years, he was the artistic director of the "Le Arti" gallery in Catania and from 1973 he became the holder of the Chair of Painting Disciplines at the Liceo Statale d'arte in Catania, until his premature death. He participated in the exhibitions: XIII Art Exhibition (Torre Pellicce), preview of Italian artists (Tunis and Livorno), Sulmona Prize of the Arts ('64,'65,'66), Exhibition of Italian Painters (Tunis,'62) , Exhibition of the contemporary portrait (Palermo, '63), Telestar Award (Palermo, '65), exhibition The small painting (Palermo, Livorno, Tunis), Exhibition Sicily '65 (Palermo and Rome), Riccione Award ('66 ), San Fedele Prize ('66), Diomira Prize (Milan, '66), Young European Artists Exhibition (Noirfield and San Paolo), 12 Sicilian graphic designers (Parma), Sicilian painters collective (Rome), 10 Sicilian painters (Rome) , Acino d'oro (Marzamemi-Pachino,'73). Personal exhibitions in Parma, Rome, Turin, Vicenza, Bologna, Reggio Calabria, Trento, Palermo, Sciacca and Catania (Galleria Le Arti, 1967).
