Basiletti Luigi (Brescia, 1780 - Brescia, 1860) After being a pupil of the painter Sante Cattaneo, he was admitted to the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna in 1801. Having moved to Rome, he met Antonio Canova and improved his skills as a landscape painter by traveling between Naples and Rome. Having returned to Brescia, he continued his career as a painter, architect and historian, designing the Grain Market in Piazzale Arnaldo. Shortly afterwards he took over the direction of the excavations at the Capitolium and the Roman theatre.
