Giovanni Battista Bassi (1926 - 2013) was an architect born in Pistoia. With his silent and fruitful laboratory in Pistoia, he is a recognized master of twentieth-century architecture. Trained according to an ethical pact between the "arts of drawing" and "life of relationships", as was the case for Giovanni Michelucci (from whom he inherited the primacy of pupil), GB Bassi has gone through seasons and cultural fluctuations while remaining anchored to his poetic fidelity. Casa Balli (which was the post-organic departure of his work), the branch of the Cassa di Risparmio in Chiesina Uzzanese, the Claid factory and the Maison Carrée in Pistoia are now architecture of the European twentieth century. And so it is for some design works (GB Bassi was among the founders of the prestigious "Poltronova") and for its interiors (La Casa Bitata, the Michelucci Salon in the Cassa di Risparmio di Pistoia); its architecture - realized or imagined - always remains faithful to that artistry which is a distinctive connotation of widespread building production.
