Franco Bassignani, Italian painter and engraver, was born on 1 June 1942 in Guidizzolo, a town located in the province of Mantua. After obtaining a diploma from the Istituto Statale d'Arte of Parma in 1959, he began a career as a teacher. Parallel to his intense teaching activity, Bassignani dedicated himself with profound commitment to graphic and pictorial art. The main subject of the artist's work was the informal transcription of the landscape, establishing a process that would lead him to gradually abandon naturalistic representation, to arrive at figurative outcomes characterized by a marked questioning and restless tension. The artist died in Guidizzolo on 11 February 2022.
