Antonio Belli (1937 – 2020) was a very talented painter, influenced first by Futurism, then joined the Neapolitan avant-garde of the 20th century together with Armando De Stefano, Vincenzo Montefusco and Raffaele Lippi. He later took up modern tonalism and magical realism. At the end of the 1960s he met the famous sports journalist Gianni Brera, who was his admirer and became a great friend. On the latter's recommendation, he moved to the Lodi area where he lived for many years, where he left a large collection depicting subjects, figures and landscapes from Lombardy. In all his works there is a link to the themes of nostalgia and the feeling of farewell, of lost time which he expresses with intense colors full of light, transfiguring the places in which he lived into a fabulous and magical sweetness. In 2013 he presented an important exhibition in the Palazzo Consiliare of Borghetto Lodigiani precisely to commemorate the great figure of his friend Gianni Brera. He died in Frosinone in 2020. In his life, in addition to obtaining praise and recognition, he also undertook a teaching career.
