Giuseppe Bellotti Biography

Giuseppe Belotti (1935 - ) was born in 1935 in Palazzolo sull'Oglio, where he still resides today. He trained at the Carrara Academy in Bergamo with the masters Achille Funi and Trento Longaretti. He completed his artistic studies with master Luigi Spazzapan and obtained a diploma from the Venturi State Institute of Art in Modena. Qualified to teach pictorial disciplines, drawing and art history in Milan, Padua and Naples, Belotti participated in the artistic experiences of the Milanese and Bergamo environments which influenced his pictorial expression since the early 1950s. His works are preserved by private collectors and placed in public buildings in Italy and abroad. From 1967 to 1974 he taught pictorial disciplines in art high schools in Brescia and Cremona. He has received numerous nationally prestigious awards such as the “D'Annunzio” National Painting Award in Gardone Riviera in 1965, in Suzzara in 1969, the National Oprandi Award in Bergamo in 1975. The wall decoration for the refectory of the Residence is by Belotti Sanitaria Assenziale Cadeo di Chiari, created in 1998 while in 2011 it produced the work in memory of the Piazza Loggia massacre of 28 May 1974 for the cloister of the church of San Giovanni in Brescia. Giuseppe Belotti's pictorial research is inspired by the artistic trend of the "New Figuration" in a path of intense communicative functionality in the expressive code of the author: the references of his works are substantiated in the substantially neo-figurative dimension but not necessarily related to specific themes such as figure, landscape and still life. The introspective investigation which in particular delves into contemporary social themes in oil paintings is quite evident in Belotti's pictorial production, while for wall decorations the artist prefers tempera and fresco.
