Aldo Bergolli (Legnno, Milan, 1916 - Milan, 1972). He graduated from the Brera Academy in 1942. The beginnings of his career were alongside Ajmone, with whom he painted the landscapes of the Olona Valley. In 1946 he returned to Italy, after fighting in the war and being a prisoner in Germany. He adheres to Picasso's style and holds his first solo exhibition in 1948, signing the Manifesto of Realism Beyond Guernica. In 1950 he was at the Venice Biennale, subsequently he approached the Informal and in 1951 he exhibited at the Rome Quadrennial. He met Crippa and Fontana and in 1954 his works were on display at the Milan Triennale. Always attentive to European artistic experiences, he frequented Ernst and often traveled between Paris and London. In 1963 he was in Brazil at the Sao Paulo Biennial. He receives numerous recognitions, prizes and acclaim during his multiple exhibitions. In the late Sixties, in Mendrisio, his subjects become dissected and enlarged plants, from which the ghosts of the world conflict and the atomic age seem to emerge.
