Maria Teresa Bertina Biography
Maria Teresa Bertina was born in 1953 and worked as a painter and sculptor between Rome and Paris. He studied art starting in 1978 at the Ecole de Paris, La Grande Chaumiére and Nicolas Poussin, Picasso's former studio. Bertina's works are influenced by the Ecole de Paris, with elements of Fauvism regarding colours, as well as expressionism and symbolism in terms of figurative style. Bertina aims to capture the spontaneity and truth of first impressions in her work, which includes painting, printmaking and sculpture with various techniques. He paints and transmits life, the colors of the world, his vision of nature and humanity and current events. Since 2010 she has been involved in the group "The Hunger Project" at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva. Bertina also received the medal of the Academy of Arts-Sciences-Lettres of Paris and participated in various international exhibitions. Her creations on display are inspired by Sophia De Mello Breyner Andresen, a Portuguese poet who in her verses addressed the theme of the fight against dictatorship, as well as her passion for the sea. There are also references to Fernando Pessoa, another Portuguese poet, and the romantic writer Victor Hugo. Bertina represents life through works structured around three themes: man, nature and the animal world. “They all belong to the same world – he comments – to the same ecosystem. The life of one depends on respect for the other. Everyone is forced to ask each other questions, and so the lexical fields come together.” Likewise, his artistic languages (sculpture, painting and engraving) merge. His works combine sensations and emotions experienced every day and seem to dialogue with each other: the chromatic exultation of the paintings is balanced by the sobriety of the engravings and the strength of the bronzes. In his thirty-year career he has participated in numerous galleries and major artistic events around the world, including China-Shanghai, Moscow, New York, Geneva, Lausanne, Canada, Bonn, Cologne, Paris, Honfleur, Toulouse, Monaco, Chile, Brussels , London, Rome, Milan, Turin, Florence, Barcelona, Colombia, Kiev Ukraine and Bulgaria.
