Bertini Gianni (Pisa, 1922 - Caen, 2010). His education was certainly not artistic, given that in 1922 he graduated in mathematics, but painting will undoubtedly be the path to his success. His early works were influenced by expressionist and post-cubist influences. Between 1948 and 1949 he created his first cycle of works which anticipated the stylistic motifs of Pop Art and in 1950, in Milan, he came into contact with the MAC movement, creating highly geometric works, he adhered to nuclear and informal painting, preferring subjects linked to the mechanical world. In 1952 he moved to Paris and came into contact with Restany and Rotella, with whom he signed the first manifesto of Mec - Art, mechanical art, which exploits mechanical processes of image reproduction, in particular photographic ones. In the 1960s he collaborated with visual poetry and was invited to hold a solo exhibition at the Venice Biennale in 1968. In 1970 he was exhibition commissioner at the Biennale. Between 1970 and 1971 he collaborated with a couple of important poetry magazines Mec. In 1984, in Paris, an important collective exhibition was dedicated to him and in 1997 he launched the manifesto "La retro - garde" in which he expressed the desire for a rebirth of the artist's material action, without the rejection of modern digital technologies.
