Jurgen Bey is a Dutch product designer born in Soest in 1965. He attended the Industrial Design Academy Eindhoven from 1984 to 1989. From 1998 to 2004, he also taught in various departments of the same academy and, from 2004 to 2005, he was the acting head of the "Man and Life" department. His work focuses on the design of products, furniture, interiors and public spaces. He works in his own studio or collaborates with companies such as Asciutto, Royal Tichelaar Makkum, Moooi and Prooff. In 2002, Bey co-founded Studio Makkink Bey with architect Rianne Makkink. Studio Makkink Bey has received numerous awards, including the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds Prize in 2005 and the Woonbeurspin Prize in 2008. The products and installations of Jurgen Bey and Rianne Makkink are part of the collection of the Central Museum in Utrecht. Some examples include Jurgen Bey and Jan Konings' Kokontafel table/chair from 1997, Jurgen's Treetrunk bench from 1999, and Rianne and Jurgen's EarChair from 2003. Since September 2010, Bey has also served as director at the Institute Sandberg in Amsterdam, the master's program of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy.
