Antonio Biasucci Biography
Antonio Biasiucci was born in Dragoni (Caserta) in 1961. In 1980 he moved to Naples, where he began work on the spaces of urban suburbs and at the same time researched personal memory, photographing rites, environments and people of his native country. In 1984 he began a collaboration with the Vesuvian Observatory, carrying out extensive work on active volcanoes in Italy. In 1987 he met Antonio Neiwiller, actor and theater director: with him a collaborative relationship was born that would last until 1993, the year of his death. From the beginning his research is rooted in the themes of Southern culture and has transformed, in recent years, into a journey into the primary elements of existence. He has obtained important recognitions, including, in 1992, in Arles, the "European Kodak Panorama" award; in 2005 the “Kraszna/Krausz Photography Book Awards”, for the publication of the volume Res. Lo stato delle cose (2004) and, in the same year, the “Premio Bastianelli”. Numerous personal exhibitions and participations in collective exhibitions, national and international festivals and exhibitions. He has also collaborated on various editorial projects, among which, in particular, we remember those for the publishing house L'Ancora del Mediterraneo, of Naples (from 2000 to 2004) and has participated in important cultural initiatives of a social nature.
