Ernesto Biondi was an Italian sculptor born in Morolo on January 29, 1854 and died in Rome on April 5, 1917. He was a verist artist interested in social, literary, and historical themes. One of his most famous works is the monument to the Libertadores in honor of Manuel Montt and Antonio Varas, created for the city of Santiago, Chile in 1903. Biondi also created works that denounce the living conditions of the lower classes, such as "Povero Cola" and "Povera gente." His bronze works were produced at the Roman foundry of Alessandro Nelli. His remains rest at the Verano Cemetery in Rome.
