Carlo Felice Biscarra Biography
Born in Turin on 26 March 1823, died there on 29 July 1894 (Servolini: 16 March 1825 - 31 July 1894). He learned the first elements of the art from his father, Giovanni Battista Biscarra, teacher at the Albertina Academy, then he perfected himself in Rome and Florence. He was a historical painter, religious painter, landscape painter, etchist, but he was more appreciated as an art writer and organizer of exhibitions. He exhibited many times at the Promoter. He was secretary of the Albertina Academy, founder and director of the periodical «L'Arte in Italia» and of the Circolo Artistico in Turin. Among his best works: "Cola da Rienzo haranguing the Roman people", with which he debuted at the Mostra del Valentino in 1850 and which was purchased by King Vittorio Emanuele II; "The Zuccato brothers in the Piombi of Venice", donated by the Ministry of the Interior to the Civic Museum of Turin; "Portrait of Vittorio Emanuele II" in the hall of the Subalpine Parliament of Turin; "Filippo Lippi slave in Barbary", judged his best painting; "Galileo Galilei before the tribunal of the Inquisition", in the palace of the Duke of Genoa; "Landscape with animals", in the Gallery of Modern Art of Genoa.
