Carlo Bisi Biography
Carlo Bisi (Brescello, 16 December 1890 – Reggio nell'Emilia, 27 February 1982) was an Italian illustrator, painter and designer, famous above all for having created the character of Sor Pampurio in the Corriere dei Piccoli magazine. Illustrator - but also prolific designer, graphic designer, cartoonist, painter, author, inventor of various characters, themes, motifs, whose art was used in publishing, teaching, advertising - he was a multifaceted and eclectic artist; after graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Parma, he joined Futurism - not by chance subsequently collaborating with Umberto Notari - and very young, in 1911, he drew satirical cartoons for the Parma magazines La Doccia and La Puntura, where caricatures of characters, arranged asymmetrically, are voluntarily recognisable. In 1918 he worked on the national magazines Numero and Il Giornale del Soldato. These magazines are diametrically opposed as the first is aimed at a fairly cultured audience, while the second has a realist style, suitable to be immediately understood and to transmit the values that are recommended to the people in the name of the homeland - working intensely and sacrificing loved ones - work experiences that will help Carlo Bisi to strengthen his eclecticism.
