Albert Bitran Biography
Albert Bitran was born in Istanbul in 1931.
He studied at the Saint-Michel College in his hometown. At seventeen he moved to Paris to study architecture, a faculty he quickly abandoned, choosing instead to devote himself to painting. His first exhibition was organized in 1951 at the Galerie Arnaud in Paris. He crossed paths with the avant-garde and participated in numerous events dedicated to abstraction, geometric abstraction in particular. The young artist exhibited at the Denise René Gallery in 1954. Shortly afterwards he abandoned geometric abstraction and moved towards experimental painting.
He makes long stays in Italy where he works and exhibits. In Paris, the Ariel Gallery regularly presented his works, but it was in 1962 that the artist began graphic work at the Mourlot atelier, where he subsequently created numerous engravings and lithographs. Starting from 1961, the year of his first exhibition at the Birch Gallery in Copenhagen, the Scandinavian countries and the Netherlands showed great interest in his work. Albert Bitran's work has been regularly exhibited in numerous international galleries and museums (Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, France, Austria, Germany, Japan, United States, Mexico, England, Turkey, etc).
Since 2000, Albert Bitran has lived and worked in Montrouge in Normandy. He passed away in 2018 in Paris.
