Lina Bo Bardi Biography
Lina Bo Bardi, born in Rome in 1914, was one of the most significant and revolutionary figures of twentieth-century architecture. After obtaining a degree in architecture in Rome in 1939, he moved to Milan, where he began his professional collaboration with Carlo Pagani and Giò Ponti's studio. In 1944, together with Carlo Pagani, he became deputy director of the magazine "Domus". In 1946, together with her husband Pietro Maria Bardi, who was invited to direct the Art Museum of São Paulo, she moved to Brazil, a place she chose as her homeland. In 1950, together with her husband, she founded and directed the magazine "Habitat" and the following year she built her first work in São Paulo: the Casa de Vidro, her residence and now the headquarters of the foundation dedicated to her. He founded and designed several museums, including the Masp, São Paulo Art Museum, the most important museum in Latin America located on Paulista Avenue. Between 1986 and 1989 she settled in Salvador de Bahia, where she was entrusted with the task of drawing up the recovery plan for the historic center. In 1990, the project for the new headquarters of the Municipality of São Paulo began, which was completed two years later. Lina Bo Bardi died in Sao Paulo in 1992.
