Marcello Boccacci Biography

Born in Florence in 1914 and passed away there on 24 January 1996. He had studied at the National Institute of the Deaf and Mute in Florence and in the artistic field he had been a favorite pupil of Maestro Gianni Vagnetti as well as a young friend of Lorenzo Viani. Counted among the major contemporary Tuscan masters, he stood out for the originality of his pictorial language, of great internal resonance, marked by simplicity, silence and melancholy. He has successfully exhibited in many national and international galleries and was particularly appreciated in Japan. His paintings are placed "in important museums such as the Guggenheim and the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the collection of the University of Tucson, the Imperial Hall in Tokyo". In the house of "Silence" he was President of the ancient Florentine association "IPAS" (1948-1949), then of the "Cassa Mutua ENS-IPAS" in the sixties with a profound sense of prudence and passion for the realization of the silent work and attended assiduously the Deaf community until his passing. Under the Presidency of Vittorio Ieralla he was awarded the Knight of Merit of the Republic (1982). Here is a comment by Giovanni Papini “a creative element in Boccacci's art is also the happy meeting of style and spiritual content. All the figures in his paintings and for many others, Marcello Boccacci's painting is not only an eloquent testimony of our times, but forms a work group that has a personal and evident life. His work is very rare due to the fact that both the public and critics agree in affirming his merits." The Provincial Section of the National Deaf-Mute Organization of Florence is in possession of the "large" oil painting donated by him during his wonderful years.
