Vito Boggeri Biography

Vito Boggeri (1939 - ) Born in Serravalle Scrivia in 1939, Vito Boggeri was one of the major artists of the province in the second half of the twentieth century. Self-taught, he approached painting at a very young age and during his artistic journey he went through various experiences: from arte povera to performance, from photography and video art to figuration. At the end of the 1950s he began his artistic career as a performer within the Informal experience. On the threshold of the 70s, after the linguistic break with informal poetics, he oriented his work towards the conceptual. His works begin to be the result of a real investigation into art, and the languages, expressive ways, as well as artistic techniques, become heterogeneous. Despite a rapprochement with the pictorial medium, Boggeri has decidedly turned his back on the white canvas, preferring the experience of packaging cardboard. He has exhibited in important Italian and international galleries, including the Franklin Fornace in New York, and in 2011 he participated in the Venice Biennale in the Liguria Pavilion. He spent the last years of his life between Val Borbera and Sanremo, where he passed away on 10 December 2020.
