Mauro Bolognini (1922 - 2011) Architect and set designer, he entered the cinema as an assistant director for Luigi Zampa, Yves Allégret and Jean Dellanoy. A refined author with literary taste, alongside his cinematographic activity, he carries out an intense theatrical activity, devoting himself to numerous opera directions. After making his debut behind the camera in the early 1950s, he reached a turning point when he met Pasolini: their collaboration gave birth to La notte brava (1959), Il bell'Antonio (1960) and La giorno balorda (1960). In 1961 his best work arrived, La viaccia, a splendid nineteenth-century fresco with Jean-Paul Belmondo and Claudia Cardinale. Also very important from these years are Agostino (1962) and Corruption (1964), quite courageous dramatic films for their time. Some of his best-known films arrived in the Seventies, even among the general public: Metello (1970), Fatti di gente per bene (1974) and the grotesque comedy Gran boiled (1977).
