Fabio Borbottoni was a Tuscan painter born in Florence in 1820, known above all for his urban views of the city
He reproduced the interior of the Duomo, Santa Croce, the Certosa, Santo Spirito and many other Florentine churches.
In his studio, one can find countless studies and paintings representing the most picturesque points of ancient Florence and the old market. These paintings are precious testimonies of places that are now lost or that appear very different compared to the layout that the city took on after the renovation works by the architect Poggi.
His paintings, which oscillate from ocher to gray tones, portray a medieval Florence, enclosed within austere walls, with its historic squares surrounded by churches and palaces.
Among the many works, we can mention: the Antica Porta a San Giorgio, the Porta a Pinti, a view of Florence from the Erta Canina, the Belvedere and San Miniato, as well as many other paintings of the most evocative parts of the city.
