Antoine Bouvard was born in Saint-Jean-de-Bournay in Isère in 1870. He trained as an architect and studied art and architecture under Constant-Dufeus, at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
Having become director of architectural services for the Seine, he was responsible for the construction of the Bourse du Travail and the Boulevard Morland in Paris.

He often signed his paintings with the pseudonym Marc Aladine. His paintings show the influence of Felix Zieme, and reflect his love for Venice through the delicacy and fluidity of the use of color, capturing in his paintings, the warmth and beauty that characterizes the Serenissima. An example is “A gondolier in front of a Venetian bridge”.
