Eliza Bridell Fox was born in London in 1824 and was a British painter. He began studying art by copying Bernhard Siegfried Albinus's Anatomy or visiting the National Gallery and the British Museum. She later convinced her father to let her study for three years at Sass's School under the direction of Francis Stephen Cary and she graduated in 1847.
The pastel portrait of her father, which she painted, was exhibited in 1847 at the Royal Academy, finding success. In those years women could not be admitted to academies, so Bridell Fox held weekly art classes in the library of her father's house, allowing female artists to draw nude models.
Eliza Bridell Fox joined the Society of Female Artists, campaigning for women to enter the Royal Academy Schools.
Bridell-Fox painted historical and everyday scenes. Some of his best-known works were landscapes and depictions of Arab life painted in Algiers.
Eliza Bridell Fox died in 1903.
