Brigitte Fugmann (1948 - 1992) was a German painter and graphic artist. Fugmann came from a family of showmen. In 1968 she graduated from high school and from 1969 to 1974 she studied at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee. From 1974 she worked in Berlin as a freelance painter until 1977. During this period she undertook study trips to the USSR, Hungary and Bulgaria. From 1977 to 1980, Fugmann taught evening courses at the Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißensee. From 1980 to 1986 he led drawing circles. From 1980 to 1988 he produced commissioned works for the Berlin district councils of Prenzlauer Berg, Mitte, Friedrichshain and Lichtenberg. From 1981 to 1989 he managed the painting and graphics center of a socio-cultural institution in Berlin-Pankow, until 1987 together with Robert Rehfeldt. He taught life drawing and screen printing there. From 1989 to 1990 he studied in Knokke-Heist, Belgium. Fugmann had solo exhibitions and participation in exhibitions in the German Democratic Republic, e.g. at the GDR art exhibition 1982/1983. From 1974 to 1991 she was a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR. She was one of the typical protagonists of the so-called Berlin School. Fugmann's works are in the Berlin City Museum, the Berlin Bode Museum and the Beeskow Art Archive. After her death in Berlin in 1992, she was buried in Ohrdruf. His estate is curated and cared for in a gallery located in a hotel on Lake Plauer in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
