Giuseppina Brignoli Biography
Giuseppina Brignoli, born in Bergamo in 1829 to a wealthy family, dedicated herself to the study of painting, becoming a private pupil of the painter Enrico Scuri in 1851, since the regulations of the Carrara Academy excluded women from the courses. She remained a pupil of Scuri until the early 1960s, when she interrupted her public painting activity and frequented the master's studio. During her years of study at the Scuri, Brignoli composed some of her best-known works and regularly exhibited at the Accademia Carrara exhibitions. Specializing in portraits, she did not disdain to try her hand at genre painting, such as the "Basket Festival" of 1858, and in sacred painting scenes, such as "The martyrdom of the three sisters Faith, Hope and Charity" of 1854-56 for the parish church of Gazzuolo.
He died in 1911.
Cultivating her passion for painting in private, Brignoli died in the second decade of the twentieth century, since after 1911 her name no longer appears in the parish and municipal registers of Bergamo.
