Sami Burhan Biography
Mohammad Sami Burhan was born in Aleppo (Syria) in 1929 and was already interested in Islamic calligraphy at the age of seven. In 1944 he became a student of Husein Husni, former first calligrapher of the Sultan of Istanbul. After completing his studies at the School of Commerce, he began teaching elementary school in 1948. Professor at the Teachers' School of Aleppo, in 1954 he visited Italy and France, studying graphics and attending various academies. After his debut exhibition in Aleppo, his career experienced a strong acceleration, with exhibitions in Leningrad, Cairo, Warsaw, Prague, Budapest, Sofia, Bucharest, Berlin, Belgrade, Damascus, Vienna, Graz. Invited to the Biennial in 1964 of Venice, he then held exhibitions in Damascus, Rome, Torre Annunziata and graduated in 1965 in Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, obtaining a diploma in Sculpture in 1967. Since the end of the Sixties his activity has been particularly intense.
