Luigi Busi was born in Bologna on 7 May 1837. At the age of twelve he entered the Venturoli Artistic College, where he had the opportunity to attend courses at the Academy of Fine Arts in his city. Since his formative years, Luigi Busi stood out for his talent, obtaining prizes and recognition both at school and in the annual exhibitions of 1852 and 1853, where he presented some of his drawings. In 1858, he decided to move to Rome to continue his studies. Here Luigi Busi found the right inspiration to create his luministic works and to delve deeper into historical painting, from a more realist perspective. Luigi Busi's art was distinguished by the fusion of naturalism with colours, shapes and the effects of light and shadow, giving his works an almost photographic realism. In the 1960s, his artistic activity was very intense, participating in the most important national events, culminating in 1870 with the award ceremony at the II National Exhibition held in Parma. Luigi Busi died in Bologna on 31 May 1884.
