Andrea Busiri Vici d'Arcevia was born in Rome on 7 January 1818. He began his artistic training as a painter, but later dedicated himself to the studies of architecture and engineering. In 1840 he won the annual competition of the Congregazione dei Virtuosi del Pantheon with a project that was published and graduated with honors from the University of Sapienza in 1844.
Over the course of his career, he experimented with different architectural styles from neoclassicism to neo-Renaissance and neo-Gothic to the so-called Umbertine. He created important works such as the triumphal arch for the entrance to the villa on the Janiculum, the urban planning of Piazza Mastai in Trastevere and the Palazzo della Dataria Apostolica on the slope of the street of the same name near the Quirinale.
Andrea Busiri Vici d'Arcevia was an academician of merit of San Luca from 1859 and a professor of practical architecture. He was also a member of numerous other Italian and foreign academies and received many pontifical and Italian Kingdom honours.
He was also a prolific writer on Roman art and curiosities.
Andrea Busiri Vici d'Arcevia died in Rome on 12 November 1911.
