Volker Bussman was born in Waldshut in 1945 and spent his childhood and youth in Frankfurt. In 1959 the artist created his first landscapes, portraits and still lifes, in 1965
obtained his high school diploma from the Helmholtz-Gymnasium in Frankfurt. Between 1965 - 1970 he undertook artistic studies in Frankfurt. His artistic production is marked by various phases; in 1966 he created liquid oil paints made with the use of iridescent colours, cast paints made of viscose mud and semi-automatic painting processes. In 1967 he created linear hand drawings exclusively in black and white, the so-called comb drawings, and in 1968 he studied fine arts at the Courtauld Institute of Art and the Warburg Institute in London. In 1969 he opened his own silk-screen printing laboratory, also dedicating himself to graphic production, but this did not last long as between 1970-71 he had to work in a factory. In 1972 he decided to return to painting. In 1973 he participated in the 50 editions in Europe and the USA with a series of raster images and optical illusions, in 1976 he was elected to the board of directors of the Frankfurter. Kunstverein. Between 1967 - 1975 he worked on the first catalog raisonné of graphics and the catalog of images and in 1976 he expanded his studio, then publishing the first study report. In 1977 he dedicated himself to the creation of cast aluminum reliefs, the invention of additive mixing of color with pigments, light and mirror reliefs. In 1978 he used collotype printing for the first time as an original graphic technique for the creation of works such as a series of torsos, plants and flowers. In 1979 he dedicated himself to the creation of couple photographs and portraits.
