Giuseppe Cacciapuoti Biography
The Cacciapuoti are a family of Neapolitan majolica makers active in the second half of the 19th and in the first decades of the 20th century in Naples and subsequently in Milan. The founder was Giuseppe Cacciapuoti, born on 1 November 1828.
Giuseppe moved on to ceramics after initially dedicating himself to engraving semi-precious stones.
Giuseppe developed a free and bold way of acting, which nevertheless moved from the dominant realism. Thus, he decorated the potter's forms with an exuberant decoration, rich in whimsical ornamental motifs, including in relief, and figures of a strong naturalistic taste. A typical example is a slender albarello vase surrounded by a branch of vine leaves and bunches of grapes modeled and colored realistically.
He participated in several art exhibitions such as that of Naples in 1877, Turin in 1880, Milan in 1881, Venice in 1887 and Rome in 1888.
The children of Giuseppe, who died around 1896, accentuated the direction taken by their father, even if they later arrived, through the eclecticism of the end of the century, at a floral stylization.
