Gaspare Cali Biography
Gaspare Calì was born on 1 June 1947 in Pachino, in the province of Syracuse. He currently lives and works in the same city, but spent a period of his life in Busto Arsizio, where he taught at the Liceo Artistico and worked in the studio in Via Brera 23 in Milan. He obtained the Diploma of Master of Art at the ISA of Syracuse in 1967. In 1972 he founded the '61 art studio in Pozzallo and, in 1975, he formed the "Gruppo 6" together with the painters C. Brancato, G. De Luca, G. Di Frenna, G. Jurato, T. Mallia, E. Micalef.
Calì's first collective exhibition took place at the 1st Pachinese Summer Exhibition in 1963, while the first solo exhibition at the Palazzo della Provincia di Ragusa in 1971. Subsequently, he received the "Palma d'Or for Art" in Sirmione in 2007 and the "Nobel for Art" in Monte Carlo the same year. Currently, Calì teaches at the ISA in Noto and stays in Torrefano, Portopalo.
