Giosue' Calierno Biography
Giosuè Calierno was born in 1897 in Rome, where he spent his youth and began studying wood sculpture. Later, he dedicated himself to painting, frequenting the artists Scipione and Mafai whom he met at the famous Caffè Greco in the capital. After acquiring further skills at the Nude School in Rome, Calierno moved to Turin, where he made his debut as an artist with a solo show in 1941. The artist specialized in landscape painting, the genre he preferred, as demonstrated by his oil on canvas "The three palms". However, he did not exclude other themes and genres, such as figures and still lifes. Calierno frequently participated in exhibitions and exhibitions after the Second World War, obtaining numerous awards, including the "Premio dei 10 Marenghi d'Oro" at the Circolo degli Artisti. During the 1960s and 1970s, Calierno's painting reached its peak, so much so that two of his works are preserved at the Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Turin. Giosuè Calierno's talent died in 1968.
