Ercole Calvi, born in Verona in 1824, was an Italian painter. After studying at the Accademia Cignaroli in Verona, he moved to Milan where he completed his training at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera. Upon returning to Verona in 1856, he became known for his lake views and romantic landscapes of the Brianza region. He held the position of professor at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Verona and became the director of the Società di Belle Arti in 1866. In the 1860s, he began painting urban views and themes related to the Risorgimento. After the 1870s, he embraced the research of veristic painting and introduced new subjects inspired by the study of the Venetian lagoon. Calvi passed away in Verona in 1900.
