Aurelio Caminati (Genoa, 3 May 1924 – Genoa, 5 July 2012) was an Italian painter. He was born in Genoa on 3 May 1924, during the war he was a partisan and always politically involved, so much so that a photo of him stood out after his death at the Festa dell'Unità in Savona in 2013. He began his career by approaching social realism by portraying characters from everyday life until the 1950s, then (at the beginning of the 1960s) he moved on to a production made up of depictions of larval and ghostly presences (the cycle of souls of Baconian ancestry from this period) subsequently, after having gone through a pop period (which includes the figurations of false ideological reinterpretations of the myths of art history), approaches hyperrealism with the series of nations and flags of the 70s "to the point of simulating photographic technique", returns to figuration in the last part of his life. His works cross various genres and the use of different materials and expressive techniques. He was in fact a very good ceramist and many exhibitions on his ceramic work have been dedicated to him, such as the one in 2010 which, as part of the culture week, was dedicated to him in the cafeteria of Royal Palace (Genoa).
