Pietro Canonica was an Italian sculptor and composer born in 1869 and died in 1959. He was known for his realistic sculptures and his operatic works, including La sposa di Corinto and Medea. He lived in Rome, where the Canonica Museum is located, and also had residences in Vetralla and Venice. In 1960, a monument to Giovanni Paisiello was inaugurated in Taranto in his memory.
