Alessandro Cannistrà (1975 - ) The Italian visual artist Alessandro Cannistrà divides his time between Milan and Rome. His cutting-edge methods allow him to investigate the most ethereal ideas of time, stillness, alienation and the sublime. Over the years, Cannistrà has developed a method that differs from the most conventional form of creative expression: smoking. He mastered the use of smoke to the point where he could produce a delicate chiaroscuro that imitates the delicacy of watercolor. Despite the menacing smoke and destructive power of fire, his works take on an ethereal quality and pay homage to the interdependence of man and the environment. Cannistrà has exhibited extensively throughout Italy and abroad, in venues such as Abu Dhabi, Singapore and Basel and Miami at Art Basel. His work was exhibited in the esteemed 54th International Art Exhibition, Venice Biennale. Acquisitions of his works take place in prestigious institutions, in particular the Guggenheim Museum and the Louvre Museum in Abu Dhabi.
