Giacomo Caramel, born in Fagarè di Piave (TV) in 1890 and passed away in Venice in 1988. At eighteen he lost his mother, at twenty-two he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. In 1919, after years of war on the front line, he married, moved to Rome and started painting again. From 1921 to 1927 he lived in Milan and then in Monza where he taught for three years at the University of Decorative Arts, later closed by the fascist regime. He returned to the Treviso area, founded an artisan school in Fagarè and between 1927 and 1937 he also executed large canvases and frescoes of sacred art in Venetian and Friulian churches. In 1934 he went to live in Treviso and in the following years he exhibited in collective exhibitions. In 1954 he settled in Venice, in Campo S. Giacomo dall'Orio; his first important solo exhibition was in 1956. In 1980 he published "Art as creation of new forms" (ed. Giardini, Pisa) and in 1982 "Art and language, affinities and differences" (ed. Panda, Padua).
