Consalvo Carelli (Naples, 1818 - 1900). He began painting in adolescence, learning the first artistic basics from his father. Over the years he became known in the Neapolitan environment and began to sell his works. After 1837 he moved to Rome, where he created portraits of important people, landscapes of the Lazio countryside and scenes of popular life. He met Massimo d'Azeglio and was passionate about the ideals of the Risorgimento, also participating in the battle of Volturno. During his stay in Rome, he became friends with Alexandre Dumas, whose book he illustrated From Naples to Rome. Upon his return to Naples, he exhibited his works from his Roman stay at the Bourbon Exhibition and left for Paris, where he won the gold medal at the Salons International des Arts for three years. In 1844 he returned to Naples, exhibited his works, became an academic of San Luca and personal painting master of Margherita of Savoy.
